PROJECT DESCRIPTION

As required by Federal Ministry of Environment Nigeria (FMEnv), J+G contracted Awa Engineering to carry out a PIA on the said site. A post Impact assessment study is an environmental study that ascertains the impacts of an ongoing or concluded project on its immediate environment prior to decommissioning. The study was carried out under the supervision of the FMEnv Abuja. The PIA for J+G was done for just one season as agreed with the FMEnv, in line with the FMEnv approved Tor/ Sow. The study examined the biophysical, socio-economic and health aspect of the project environment with regards to operational activities of J+G at the project site.

PROJECT CHALLENGE

The major challenge during the course of carrying out the PIA study was collecting the socio economic data from the project host community due to differences between community and company.

WHAT WE DID

We designed and submitted a TOR/Sow for the PIA study to the FMEnv. Upon approval of the TOR, the current baseline status within the study area was determined and compared against existing data by our team of experts. Impacts of the project activity were determined and adequate recommendations were proffered. The PIA report was prepared and sent to FMEnv. A panel of experts was constituted by the FMEnv and a technical review of the report and site assessment was facilitated by Awa Engineering.

RESULT

Following a successful PIA study we were able to help our client get the site regulatory approval from the Federal Ministry of Environment.
